LED’s are becoming a more and more popular form of bulb thanks to their energy efficiency. They also tend to last longer compared to their counterparts as they integrate a heat sink which absorbs the heat rather than them overheating or burning out.

There are many interesting facts about Light Emitting Diodes, see below for more facts!

– They are the most energy efficient bulb on the market, converting 95% of the energy consumed into light – compare that to an incandescent bulb that only converts 10% of energy, it’s pretty impressive!

– They are mercury free! Therefore more than 96% of their parts can be recycled.

– They are very long lasting, on average lasting for over 50,000 hours!

– Blue LED’s can keep food fresh! They have been proven to have a resilient antibacterial effect on most foodborne pathogens. They are now being utilised in fridges.

– Particular shades of red and blue LED’s are great for gardening! They offer light for photosynthesis as well as regulating the plant from propagation to vegetative development and flowering.

– The brightness of LED’s is measured in lumens not watts. LED bulbs that are 800 lumens is equal to a 60 watt incandescent bulb.

– An LED is a device that uses semiconductors in order to make light when a current passes over it.

– On average, LED lights aren’t subjected to severe destruction from external shock.
